Where we're at now!

Hey gang,

It’s been a while since I’ve updated you on what’s happening in LCE land, so here’s a synopsis. We’ve not been sitting idle!

John, Lisa, and Cinda worked hard over the last two weeks to put flooring in a part of the studio of our photographer, Dean. I picked out the floor (got the most economical option, as I am wont to do) and it was, naturally, a total nightmare to deal with. I am getting razzed for that. Deservedly so, I suppose, since I didn’t lay one board of the 800 square feet. Lisa, on the other hand (she’s the one sitting in the image above), crawled around on the floor for three days, mastering the fine art of wrestling with cheap laminate. But she did it! John (he’s standing) assisted and ran the circular saw. And I hafta say, it looks fantastic! You’re looking at the wall on which the little LCE video kitchen will live.

Actually, it really is closer to being done than what you see here. There’s one more row left to be laid by the front door (ran short by, like, five boards. Of course we did.) and then baseboard and quarter-round. THEN it’s done!

And we have a couple of stock cabinets for our cooktop on which we’ll film the recipe videos. We thought it best that we invest in an electric cooktop as that is probably what most LCE users would have in their kitchens (our current video studio on the other side of this wall has gas cooktops). The cooktop will fit into a laminate countertop which will then be anchored onto the cabinet above. The cabinet will also be fitted with wheels so it can move around. We’ve made and used several of these “rolling bombs,” as we affectionately refer to them, over the years and have found that they fit videography needs very well. (Incidentally, the “bomb” refers to a propane tank that is hooked up to our gas cooktops. The LCE “rolling bomb” will not be explosive!)

So things are humming along! I placed an order this week for the LCE swag–very happy to find a local business to do the imprinting work–so rewards will be coming to backers soon. I’ve yet to hear from several people about their rewards, and in order to keep things moving, I went ahead and ordered for those I’ve heard from. If you haven’t gotten back to me yet with your information (t-shirt sizes, addresses, etc.), you certainly can, but your reward might be delayed in getting to you. We’ll do our best to stay on track. Regular meetings continue with our IT guys and we’re nailing down a design that is so nice! Cinda is doing a fantastic job with it. We’re also working on the LCE website, trying to blog periodically, putting menu ideas together for testing and filming, getting out and meeting people and talking about LCE, and all the while working the Main Dish Media angle to keep the lights on!
